Hokies Welcome Former Big East Rival

#3 Virginia Tech vs #13 Boston College 7:45ET ESPN

Hokies square off against the Eagles in their second straight Thursday night game. BC is on a four game winning streak and Virginia Tech has won nine of their last ten games.

This game features a match up of two of the best defenses in the ACC. Virginia Tech has the number one scoring defense in the nation allowing just nine points per game. They also rank third in passing defense, second in total defense, and second in turnover margin. Hokies are led on defense by DE Darryl Tapp and CB Jimmy Williams. Meanwhile, the Eagles boast a strong defense of their own. They are allowing only 14 points per game, only 78 yards per game on the ground, and 273 of total offense. The Eagles downfall this season is their turnover margin (-0.86) ranking them 101st in the country.

The past five meetings have resulted in combined score over 60 for these two teams. Boston College is one of two teams in the ACC to have 300+ yards offense in each game this season. The Eagles have two QB's effectively this season: Quinton Porter and Matt Ryan. Expect Quinton Porter to start, but Matt Ryan will see some time. Eagles are paced by running backs L.V. Whitworth and Andre Callender, both sophomores. Marcus Vick leads the ACC in passing efficiency with a 165.6 rating. Despite mediocre statistics on offense, the Hokies are averaging 30+ points this season.

The Hokies will have their raucous crowd behind them for this very important ACC matchup. Virginia Tech does have Miami coming in next week, but Frank Beamer and his staff know how important this game is as well in their
hopes of reaching the BCS. As earlier mentioned, BC is one of the worst teams in the nation in turnover margin. Considering the Hokies are very good at creating turnovers and capitalizing on them, expect the Hokies to win this one convincingly.

Prediction: Virginia Tech 24 Boston College 10
