Start of a Trend?

Apparently, Sean Singletary is giving serious thought to leaving UVA, but not for the NBA, but the NBDL instead. The junior feels he may be able to improve his game moreso in the NBDL than under the Dave Leito and the ACC.

I really hope he reconsiders. The NBDL does pay, but is Virginia that bad? Check out SI's campus visit from a few weeks ago. I would think Charlottesville then some of the bus trips on the NBDL circuit.

ACC Early Season TV Schedule

The ACC has released the early season TV schedule. Teams are playing 12 games again this year so each team will be playing 4 non conference games.

Opening Week Sept 1
Georgia Tech @ Notre Dame 3:30 NBC
The Jackets travel to South Bend and try to exact some revenge on the Irish who will be starting a new QB. Jon Tenuta is licking his chops... but so is Charlie Weis
Marshall @ Miami 12:00 ESPNU
Randy Shannon's first game as head coach will not be a push over. The Thundering Herd is not what they once were, but if Kyle Wrighta plays really, really bad it could be pretty close.
FSU @ Clemson 8:00 ESPN
The Atlantic Division will likely be decided on the first weekend. Clemson has won the last two, but will be starting a new QB. FSU would like to be starting a new QB, but it is still stuck with Drew Weatherford and Xavier Lee

Sept 8
After a week of opening game to get people interested, week 2 turns into Division I-AA week (or whatever their name is now) except for Virginia Tech.
Virginia Tech @ LSU 9:15 ESPN
LSU made sure this was a night game where strange things happen and the Tigers can't seem to lose (except for when Rick Clausen is the QB). Kinda weird that these two schools both share a recent tragedy with their campus. LSU is tough at home..very tough.

Sept 15
ACC schedule opens in earnest
FIU @ Miami 3:30 ESPNU
Brawl Part Deux is the only reason this game is televised.
Boston College @ Georgia Tech 8:00 ESPN2
Gut check game for both of these teams who want to be contenders and not pretenders.

Sept 20 Thursday
Texas A&M @ Miami
With a couple games under his belt, Shannon needs this one to show Miami is on the right track. The Aggies have big plans for this season and would love to notch a road win over Miami on their belt. Hurricanes have just 5 days to prepare.

College Football's Most Valuable Teams

Forbes magazine recently did a special on college football's most valuable teams. Not surprisingly, Notre Dame is #1 with their exclusive television contract a big reason why.

List ranks value in University, Athletics, Community, and Conference.

SEC had 7out of the top 13, while the ACC had 0. Georgia ranked the highest at number largely due to having the most profit of any athletics department in the nation. Alabama came in at number 7 and that is after 10+ lackluster years in football..... what is going to happen if (when) Saban turns that place around?!

The SEC is king on the gridiron and on the balance sheets.

SEC Releases Early TV Schedule

We only have about three months until college football kicks for most of the SEC and ACC. The SEC released its early season TV schedule, with a couple of headliner non conference the first two weeks.

LSU will travel to Starkville to kick the season off on August 30 at 8PM on ESPN. Let's just hope Miss St can muster some points to make this one entertaining. I have a feeling we will be lucky to see 35 points total though.

That Saturday is when most everyone kicks off. Okie State travels to Athens and will try to fare better than Boise State did last year at 6:45 on ESPN2. Auburn hosts Kansas State in a rare cross-sectional matchup at 7:45 on ESPN and Cal looks for revenge on Tennessee in Berkeley on ABC at 8PM. I love how the SEC has stepped out of the Conference USA and Sun Belt entree of early season games and scheduled some BCS conference teams.

Week 2 will feature an early season SEC tilt on ESPN2 at 5:45 with South Carolina traveling to Georgia. This is the game where South Carolina could separate themselves into a division contender this year. LSU would not host a big time opponent at any other time than at night. The Hokies come calling at 9:15 on ESPN in what should be an early season national championship weed out game. Hard to pick against LSU on a Saturday night in Baton Rouge...

Week 3 is when the SEC East really starts to shake out when Tennessee will travel to Florida for the CBS game at 3:30. Very hard to come back and win the East for the loser in this game. Arkansas travels to Alabama in Nick Saban's first big conference tilt at 6:45 on ESPN.

Just 3 months to go...
