Better Late Than Never Predictions For Oct 18

Been out of the country (and still out of the country) for the last week on my Honeymoon and I have not had time to put anything, but I figure better late than never. These predictions will be short and to the point, which is probably what you have wanted all along. Let me know if you like the shorter previews.

Georgia Tech @ Clemson
Line: GT -2.5

RB CJ Spiller is out for the Tigers and QB Cullen Harper is going to have shoulder surgery after the game. This explains why Clemson has not had a downfield passing game this season and also tells me Clemson wants to prepare for the future and get backup Willy Korn in. If Tommy Bowden really thought the Tigers were going somewhere this season I doubt Harper would be having mid season surgery in his senior year. Oh wait... Tommy won't have another season at Clemson after resigning Monday.

Georgia Tech struggled last week against Gardner-Webb playing their third and fourth string QBs. Struggling is actually an understatement from what I heard. But they got their really bad game of the year out of the way. I like Georgia Tech's running attack in this one to win it going away.

Vanderbilt @ Georgia
Line: UGA- 14.5

Vandy found out they were mortal last week in losing to Miss State. This Commodore team has played Georgia tough the last two seasons winning in Athens in '06 and if not for a late fumble likely would have won again in '07. However, I like Georgia in this game because it is in Athens. Vandy has played much better at home under Johnson than they have on the road. I think Knowshon Moreno has a big game in this to jump back into the Heisman race. For Vandy to stay in this one, they will need to continue to win the turnover battle.

LSU @ South Carolina
Line: LSU -2.5

This is the game where we find out who is the real LSU. Either it is the team that went on the road and beat Auburn or the team who got blown out in the 2nd half by Florida. This is a classic sandwich game for the Tigers. Last week they played Florida and next week they play Georgia. South Carolina has been lying in the weeds since their two opening losses in the SEC and has slowly made its way back to .500 in conference play.

For South Carolina to pull of the upset, they will need very good QB play. For LSU to hang onto the win, they will need their QB to not mess it up. I think LSU is a little ticked after last week's embarassment and has too much power on the lines for South Carolina.
