Thursday 7:45 PM
Line: Ga Tech -3.5
The Miami Hurricanes roll into Atlanta for a Thursday night game hoping to move one step closer to a Coastal Division title. They face Georgia Tech who is coming off a bye week after their worst loss of the season at North Carolina 28-7. Georgia Tech has beaten Miami three straight seasons and will need a 4th straight to have any shot at winning the division. The Canes will win the Coastal if they win out.
Keys to the Game:
1. Georgia Tech Turnovers
This statistic has more or less written the book on how Georgia Tech will do this season. It is not been said whether Josh Nesbitt will play at QB or not, but there has not been a discernable difference between him and his backup Jaybo Shaw regarding turnovers.
We are getting towards the end of the season and injuries and depth are big concerns. Both of these teams are banged up with starters questionable that could swing the game either way, especially for Georgia Tech who is not sure if Nesbitt can play at QB. Both of these teams already play a lot of freshman and sophomores and may have to play more if any more injuries pop up on Thursday.
3. Shaky Offensive Lines
These two teams are very similar on the offensive and defensive lines. One is good; the other has been very shaky at times. Georgia Tech had four backups in at one point against North Carolina on the o-line and Miami has been struggling for several years on the offensive line. Meanwhile, GT has one of the best defensive lines in the ACC especially if DT Vance Walker can play and Miami has a young, ever improving unit. Miami’s DL will play a big role in whether or not they can slow down Ga Tech’s spread based option. Can Georgia Tech block them?
It is hard to believe that Georgia Tech is the only team that Miami’s 4th year seniors have not beaten in the ACC Coastal. However, it would be fitting if Miami lost this game. Every other team in the ACC who has controlled their destiny has a penchant for losing. Georgia Tech is coming off a bye week and I have a feeling Paul Johnson has corrected mistakes made last game.
