Maryland-FSU Preview and Prediction

Maryland vs Florida State
Line: Maryland –1

The Atlantic Division race could get a little more clear after Saturday’s game between Maryland and FSU. The Terps control the destiny in the Atlantic and are undefeated at home in 2008. FSU dropped a tough one at home to Boston College (who also controls their destiny) and fell out of the top 25. However, that may not be such a bad thing as Maryland has struggled against unranked teams.

Keys to the Game:

1. Rushing Game

Both of these teams like to move the ball on the ground with their potent running attacks. However, when they are out rushed by their opponent their chances of winning have gone down significantly. FSU record when out rushed: 1-2, Maryland 1-2.

2. Turnovers

FSU is the more explosiveness team on offense, but they have been really hurt by turnovers at key times, see loss to Wake and Georgia Tech. Maryland is more pedestrian in their offense but has not suffered near the number of mistakes FSU has.

3. Karma

Ok this isn’t really a key, but just interesting. Maryland is undefeated against ranked teams in 2008. They are also undefeated at home in 2008. However, they are less than .500 against unranked teams under Friedgen recently. FSU is not ranked, but they have them at home…something has to give.

Prediction

The ACC Atlantic has been just as crazy as the Coastal Division this year. Maryland along with BC control their destinies and will meet next week. FSU has shown a much better offense than last year, but is still struggling with turnovers at the QB position.

I don’t know what to think with Maryland. Friedgen himself said he didn’t know what to think of his team. I think FSU will be able to run on Maryland and pull out a close win.

Florida State 21 Maryland 20
FSU Covers +1

Last Week: 3-2 ATS, 4-1 SU
Season: 28-18-2 ATS, 32-16 SU
