Miami-Virginia Tech Preview and Prediction

Virginia Tech at Miami
Thursday 7:30 PM
Line: Miami -4

A game with huge Coastal Division implications takes place in Miami on Thursday night as the Hokies look to inch one win closer to a second consecutive berth in the ACC title game. Miami comes in off a bye and on a hot streak beating Virginia on the road two weeks ago.

Keys to the Game:

1. Can Miami Slow VT’s running game?

Virginia Tech started a gimpy Sean Glennon last week against Maryland, but used sparingly in the passing game as Darren Evans lit the Terps up for over 200 yards rushing. Miami’s defense was having some issue stopping the run earlier in the year, but has improved during their win streak. If I am Randy Shannon I am daring Frank Beamer to beat me with the pass regardless of who their QB is with 8 or even 9 guys in the box.

2. Can Miami Avoid Bone Head Mistakes

This Miami has talent, but it is young and mistake prone right now. The Hurricanes are going with two first year playing QBs and that can be dangerous against a good defense like Va Tech has. If Miami can avoid turnovers and penalties, I like their chances because they have better talent than Virginia Tech.

Virginia Tech has been scary good on Thursday nights as of late. It will tougher playing on the road and having to travel mid week, but they are used to (flashback @ GT 2007). Miami has really playing better as of late, but VT seems to have their number as of late. I am becoming less impressed with the Virginia win and Duke hung with them for 3+ quarters.
