Vanderbilt-Tennessee Preview and Prediction
Vanderbilt vs Tennessee
Line: Vanderbilt –3
It is not uncommon that one team in this game is bowl eligible and the other is destined for a losing season. But the roles are reversed this year with Vanderbilt being bowl eligible for the first time since 1982. The Commodores are trying to improve their bowl status remembering what happened to 6-6 South Carolina a year ago.
Keys to the Game:
1. Vandy Gets Ahead Early
It is pretty obvious to me that Tennessee is having serious motivation issues with Fulmer leaving and all the uncertaintly around the program. They lost to Wyoming at home! This team is lacking confidence on offense and know in the back of their head they would have a tough time coming back from 14+ points down. If Vandy can control the ball and get up a couple of scores then I think they could roll.
2. DJ Moore Effect
Last week, the Vandy star became the first player in a long, long time to catch 2 TDs and intercept 2 passes. If Moore, can have that kind of impact on the game again then Vanderbilt should have this one locked up.
3. Tennessee Running Game
The Vols cannot pass the ball. They will have to impose their will with their offensive line and the running game. If UT cannot run for at least 150 yards in this game, they will not win.
I think I have spelled out pretty clearly how bad Tennessee is this year. Vanderbilt beat Tennessee three years ago and narrowly lost last year…and I think they smell blood again. The Commodores gets win #7 using what they have done all year - win the turnover battle, control the ball, play solid defense.
