Florida State - Gonzaga Prediction: Will Turnovers Doom The Seminoles?
#8 Gonzaga vs #9 Florida State
Florida State marches into the NCAA Tournament to face former Cinderella and now Tournament mainstay Gonzaga.
The Seminoles bring the nation’s best field goal percentage to Buffalo. FSU center Solomon Alabi stands 7’1” and his 2.4 blocks per game are a big reason why Leonard Hamilton’s club is so good on defense.
This game presents an interesting contrast of styles like the Georgia Tech and Oklahoma State matchup.
FSU likes to pound the ball inside to their bigs and use those post players as mistake erasers on the defense floor. Gonzaga plays more of an outside game with three of the top four players by minute being guards.
Where this game could turn is with turnovers and free throws.
FSU ranks near the bottom of the NCAA field coughing it up nearly 17 times per game. Looking at the bottom of the list you do not find a whole lot of teams playing in the post season.
Also, even though the Bulldogs are not great at the line (66%) they shoot free throws at a much higher rate than the ‘Noles (27pg v 21 pg) and that could be very important in what is expected to be a very close game.
