South Carolina-Southern Miss: 3 Things To Watch For

College football finally gets under way in Columbia Thursday night with South Carolina facing Southern Miss.

Garnet and Black has a preview of the game better than I could do, so I will instead give three good reasons to watch to determine if South Carolina can answer some of their burning questions in game one.

1. The Steve Spurrier-Stephen Garcia Interaction
Spurrier has made it known widely his displeasure with Garcia's commitment and performance this off season. The Head Ball Coach is known for pulling QBs in the middle of a game or even a series. He couldn't do it last year because of depth, but evidently he is confident enough in true freshman Connor Shaw to do it.

I am going to concede Garcia will get pulled in this game. Most importantly will be how he reacts once he is inserted again.

2. DeAndre Brown's Impact
Southern Miss has one of the best receivers most have never heard of. The Gamecocks defense will not face many receivers in the SEC better than Brown who turned down Ole Miss to attend school in Hattiesburg.

If South Carolina can slow down Brown then it will build confidence in their secondary.

3. Marcus Lattimore Debut
One of the top recruits in the nation last year should get plenty of playing time. A good performance could tell the fortune of two recent weak points for the Gamecocks. First, he could sure up a disappointing running back corps. Second, the questions of the offensive line could be quieted...for the time being.

South Carolina Q&A with Leftover Hot Dog I did a few weeks back.
