South Carolina Names New Athletic Director (Video)

Remember the days when the legendary football coach would step into the Athletic Directors role? (ok, I am actually too young to remember this but I have been told of such an event)

South Carolina is going back to yesteryear by naming their most successful coach as their new Athletic Director to replace the departed Eric Hyman who left for Texas A&M.

Ray Tanner of three straight College World Series finals and back to back championships is taking over the Gamecock Athletic Department. Georgia Tech AD Dan Radakovich was also among those considered as he spent time in South Carolina's athletic department during his career.

Tanner does have administrative experience so while it is not a complete throw back to the days of the coach taking over it is a new direction.

Recently, many programs have gone with the experienced administrator who can navigate debt negotiation, scheduling, fund raising, and NCAA matters all at once over the all popular coaching legend.

Here is Tanner's introductory press conference from Gamecock Anthem.
